From time to time people wonder "What is Metva".
Maybe its quicker to tell
you what Metva isn't. Metva is not an ISP.
Metva isn't in West Australia and has no connection with or
arrangement with Netway Technologies there. Metva does have an
interest in Netway Communications in Victoria, a completely unrelated
company developing and manufacturing
of GPS based AVL (vehicle tracking) systems.
So the long and the short of this is, if you came here looking
for free hours or Web hosting or any of those
bandwidth related Internet reasons, you're at the wrong place.
Try one of the links below for a serious ISP who (generally) knows
what they're doing:
I'll note that the only ordering here is alphabetical
and that I have no commercial affiliation with any of these people.
If you're an ISP and want to be included,
drop me a note.
So, what is Metva? Metva is the company I, Enno, used to do my contracting
under. I'm a professional computer programmer and occasionally a
consultant. Seeing as I represent the entire Metva workforce,
Metva's capabilities closely match those on my resume, which I'll happily
provide to those who ask. The precis is: systems administrator (UNIX and other
midrange systems), developer (C, Java, PHP, perl, assembler, web pages, web
applications, embedded systems AVR/ARM/and older), have led teams and frankly
am moving my career in that direction.
In practice, Metva can attempt bigger things (say design and manufacture
custom hardware with embedded software) by subcontracting out work to
engineers and others of my acquaintance, but so far no one has required
that sort of work from Metva.
OK, so who are those other people who seem to have had accounts
here? Some of them are friends, some are people I've worked
with and some are people who just asked nicely. Metva is
mostly here to support me earning my living but the incremental cost
of a few extra users (most of who either have a few Web pages or just
collect their mail here) is low. If you need an account somewhere or
feel the need for a new mailbox, feel free to ask. But be warned that
in these days of fiscal restraint, you'll need a more compelling reason
to offer than you were surfing past and saw my light on.
